Tales from the Meridian
"Tales from the Meridian" is a custom sci-fi themed module designed for the tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. The module takes players through the Meridian satellite ring in order to solve a mystery that runs deep in the location's history. It offers a short narrative that players can follow, history and worldbuilding, custom classes, custom enemies, and more to enrich the experience for players and allow options for dungeon masters to play with.
This project was primarily created as part of a group. My main contributions were general concept creation as the group leader, alongside primarily designing the worldbuilding and narrative. The concept behind Tales from the Meridian was one I was considering designing for a few years, though a lot of the earlier drafts prior to fully designing this were nothing but character lists and short concepts. It wasn't until I had a team to work together on this project with that I fully was motivated to build out more of the world and characters.
My main theme for this project was one word: hope. I wanted to design a world that relies heavily on hope of itself and it's foundation. That no matter what chaos is sent and whatever destruction is wrought, the hope and spirit of humanity prevails. Yet I also designed narrative elements on the opposite end of this spectrum. Where there are positive aspects of hope and humanity, there will always be negative aspects as well. What matters is how we as people take in these negative aspects. A simple question of do you push forward, or do you let them influence you like they did the person before you? So while this campaign is heavily designed to be a fun adventure through a sci-fi space station I wanted to give players the chance to explore something deeper. To think about what makes and drives a human.
A look at the narrative elements I designed is outlined below. A link to the module in full can be found to the left of this page.
